I am interested in purchasing a catalogue for Israeli stamps and was wondering if anybody could briefly desribe the pros and cons of the Carmel catalogue and appropriate Scott volume (Bale is too expensive at this time). Thank you.

Pitman, I am a new collector. I started with the Scott catalogue which I bought on CD Rom; but found it not as useful as the Bale catalogue, which I subsequently purchased from House of Zion in California. The costs of the two are comparable. In my short time collecting stamps I find that it is worth while to have a good catalogue. One is really hunting in the dark without a good catalogue. Of course you probably can find the Scott catalogue in your local library. In ours the current catalogue is in the reference section and the catalogue of the year immediatly preceeding is on the shelves of the books for circulation. I am not familiar with the Carmel catalogue you mention.
